Singing the days of the week

Garrett's Birthday Party

We had Garrett's birthday party at the local grocery store called Loblaw's (Garrett calls it Blahblah's). :) So cute!! The kids got to chop their own toppings and make their own little pizzas, make fruit kabobs, and then each kid got to decorate a cake to take home. It was a fun day!

Euan and Caroline are in class together and have become good friends. We've been doing a lot with Elena and Euan!!

The pretty tree

We went to the Outdoor Christmas Market in downtown Toronto with some friends. It was a really cute area...fun vendors, Santa, a carousel, hot chocolate, etc.

Sitting on Santa's lap for the first time, EVER!!!

Caroline wrote it for him, but, he signed his name at the bottom. :)

So proud of our gingerbread house!

We're using the tree that is here in the house we are renting...Caroline was a little sad at first that it wasn't a big tree, but, the kids got into decorating the tree and house. Caroline made the star for the top and an angel. :)

We colored pictures on sandpaper and then put the sandpaper face down on a white piece of paper. Put a towel over the sandpaper and iron. It will create a cool picture.

Community Garden Party

We started going to a community garden program in our neighborhood this summer. Today there was a party to end the gardening season. The kids got to bring home a pumpkin, play an egg toss game (Garrett made it into the finals-ha ha), tug of war, and have yummy treats. We had a great time!

Garrett-isms (since starting school in Canada)

Garrett's been making us laugh so much with his new "formal" way of talking...we are giving compliments to his teacher, since we don't use some of these words in our every day language. :)

"We learned a new word today. Principled."

"I get to take 'unttendance' to the office. I have to pick a friend who's sponsible."

"Sissy, which park would you prefer to go to?"

"You aren't sitting properly"

"You have to do it correctly"

"I want to play the piano, but, I don't have any skill"

Toronto Update

Well, we are finally settling in after about 3 months (9 months to go, not that we're counting...). Caroline is making friends and is feeling more comfortable with recess and lunch, which had her pretty anxious for a bit. Her favorite part of school is math and art. She started a pottery class today and went right in. We keep reminding her of all of the new things she's trying and that she has fun. Both kids start soccer on Wednesday. :)

Garrett is making friends as well and is LOVING school. He loves his teacher and his favorite part of school is recess and show and tell. He is amazing us everyday with his memory. Last weekend, Patrick took the kids to the Terry Fox Run (google Terry Fox ESPN to see a video on him). Terry Fox was a Canadian who ran across the country with an above knee amputation and prosthetic leg. Well, the day after the run, Patrick told the kids he wanted to show them a video of Terry Fox and Garrett said, "We talked about him at school today. He had a robotic leg. Just like Winter. He had a robot tail." Patrick and I looked at each other wondering what he was talking about... He was talking about the new movie Dolphin Tale about the dolphin that learns to swim with a prosthetic tail.

Quick visit home

We went home to Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend to say goodbye to Patrick's little sister, Kathleen. Kathleen left on Sept. 7 to go to Eldoret, Kenya for a year. We wanted to see her before she left, so, we decided to make the trip home. It was actually shorter than the drive from MN to IN. :)
